Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 11, 2026The short version: Gossip Finder has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. Everything you put into the app stays on your device. We cannot see your data — period.
1. Who we are
Gossip Finder ("the app") is a privacy-first mobile application for iOS and Android that helps you keep track of which version of a personal story you told to which friend. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it lives.
2. Data we collect
None. Gossip Finder does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. The app has no backend servers, requires no account or registration, and contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
3. Data stored on your device
Everything you create in the app is stored locally, in an encrypted database on your device:
- Friends you add (names, optional notes, optional photos)
- Groups you organize friends into
- Traps (questions and the codes assigned to each friend)
- Leaks you record (codes heard and their sources)
- Trust scores, statistics and achievements derived from the above
The database encryption key is generated on your device and protected by the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore. The app can additionally be locked with a 6-digit PIN, Face ID, Touch ID or your device's biometric system. Your PIN is never stored in plain text — only a salted cryptographic hash of it.
4. Contacts access
If you choose to import friends from your address book, the app asks for permission to read your contacts. Contact data is read on-device, only the entries you explicitly select are saved into the app's local database, and nothing is ever uploaded anywhere. You can use the app fully without granting contacts access by adding friends manually.
5. Exports and backups
You can export your data as an encrypted file protected by a password you choose. The export is created on your device and shared only through the share destination you select. We never receive a copy. If you lose the password, the export cannot be opened — by you or anyone else.
6. Recovery phrase
When you set up a PIN, the app generates a 12-word recovery phrase on your device. It is shown to you once and is used solely to let you reset your PIN. Store it safely; it is never transmitted and we cannot recover it for you.
7. Data deletion
You are in full control. You can clear all data from the app's settings at any time, or simply delete the app — all locally stored data is removed with it. Because we hold no copies, there is nothing for us to delete on any server.
8. Children
Gossip Finder is not directed at children under 13, and since the app collects no data, no children's data is processed by us.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app's privacy behavior ever changes, this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date revised before the change ships. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's release notes.
